Join us in the library to celebrate the birthday of Toni Morrison with a close read of her debut novel and literary classic, The Bluest Eye (1970). ​CLOSE READ is a literacy-focused program dedicated to strengthening reading comprehension, annotation and analysis skills. It's not a book club, as pre-reading is encouraged but not required. The program is designed to meet readers of all levels where they are. ​Attendees are asked to bring a note-taking tool and their personal copy of the book. Digital and (limited) printed copies of the text will be provided.

​Join us in the library for a short experimental documentary screening of "IFEYINWA" and a group conversation led by Jay Okoroafo, artist and founder of homebodi ARCHIVE, an ongoing memory project rooted in archival practice—activating family archives through moving image, sound, and gathering to tell stories of home, belonging, and becoming within Houston’s African diaspora. ​Grounded by Tina Campt's text "Images Matter," the post-screening discussion will dissect the importance of family archives to Black folks across the African Diaspora.
